How to keep up with Vera Quinn

  Blurb

  Brody

I am a Marine and a bounty hunter. Because let’s face it, once a Marine always a Marine. My work and my parents are the constants in my life. I am haunted by the bad decisions I have made in life. My best friend became my adversary. Why? We loved the same woman. I loved a woman that was forbidden fruit. A line in the sand I would not cross. I married a good woman and then pushed her away because my heart was with someone else. Decision after decision kept shutting doors and burning bridges. Then I came face to face with a woman I can’t walk away from, even if she does keep running from me.

  Charity

Since the day the Hell Keeperz MC made my pop an offer he couldn’t refuse, my life has become a nightmare. I have witnessed horrors that no one should see. Then my eyes met his and I felt a connection. I knew in that minute, I would do anything to help Brody and Rebel escape. Even if I escape from these people, I can never quit running, even if I leave my heart behind.

  Rebel

The Demented Revengers MC is at war. We will do whatever it takes to dismantle the Hell Keeperz MC while keeping our family safe. Hopefully, we will all be Surviving Until The End.

  Prologue

  Brody

The war between the Demented Revengers MC and the Hell Keeperz MC is heating up and Rebel and I have come to a truce, of sorts, so we can combine our resources and contacts and get these criminals that are killing children and destroying families with the drugs they are putting on the streets. They are killing anyone that could be of help to us and tying up loose ends. They are staying one step ahead of us and it is time to turn this situation around before more people are killed…innocent people. That is what brings Rebel and myself to Neldan’s Diner. Rebel and I both received text to meet Cap here.

Working so close with Rebel on this situation with the Hell Keeperz MC has brought our friendship back, somewhat. What started out as a strained working relationship has evolved, and I have remembered why Rebel and I were such good friends. After this is over I want that friendship back. I’ll earn it back.

The inside of this diner never changes. We have been coming here to get good homecooked meals since I can remember. The place isn’t as overflowing as usual, so Rebel and I take a table in the back, so we will be able to talk with Cap without everyone ease dropping on our conversation.

“Have you eaten yet? You want to grab a bite while we are here?” Rebel asks me.

“I’ll look at the menu and see if anything sounds good. I just need something cold to drink first.” I answer Rebel, but I notice the waitress getting our water glasses is new. She’s a curvy little thing. I don’t think I have seen her in here before.

“The menu hasn’t changed in years Brody. I am with you about something cold to drink.” The waitress brings us ice water and sits a glass in front of each of us then hands us menus.

“Do you know what you want, or do you need a few to look at the menu?” The waitress asks with a flirty smile on her face. That smile shuts down any a
ttraction I had to the woman. It reminds me too much of Selena. I don’t want anything to do with any woman that reminds me of the woman that aborted my child.

“Give us a minute.” Rebel says. I lift my water glass to my mouth and drink half the glass.

“Could you bring more water when you come for our order?” I don’t even look at the woman when I talk to her.

“Sure thing.” She says and then turns and leaves. I see Rebel is just as thirsty as I was. We have been running down leads most of the day. One hot dusty road after another. I am looking at the menu, but Rebel is right, I could recite this menu from memory. I look at my watch and Cap is running a little late. I didn’t know that man could be late. He is meticulous in his planning. I pick up the water glass and finish it and then look back at the menu. My head feels fuzzy and my sight is blurry. I look over at Rebel and he is rubbing his eyes. I start to say something and then everything just fades to black…

  Chapter 1

  Rebel

I am lying here on a filthy cold floor. I am chained to the wall with Brody next to me. He is still unconscious from whatever they slipped in our drinks or that is what I am thinking happened. We had previously thought that the Hell Keeperz MC were only mobile in buses, but this is no damn bus. The floor and the walls are wood with a filthy rug covering it. Smells musty and old. It could be an old house or hotel. There is a full-size bed in the corner of the room and a camera set up on a tripod. I see a toilet and sink in the corner. The lights are bright, but the windows are boarded with only small places to see out. I don’t even know how many hours I have been out. My mouth is dry, and my eyes feel heavy. I refuse to let sleep take me under again. I need to find us a way to escape. Gracie will be worried, along with all my brothers at the clubhouse. They will be on the hunt for us.

“What the hell happened?” Brody asks me.

“I would guess that we were drugged.” I answer Brody.

“My mind is a blank. What’s the last thing you remember?” I think about Brody’s question. Everything is still unclear.

“The last thing I remember is sitting down in the diner in Quitman and waiting for Cap to show up. The woman brought over some water and the menus. It had to be in the water. That means we have bigger problems than we thought. Most people in Northeast Texas know to not cross the Demented Revengers. Steve Neldan the owner of the diner has been a long- time supporter of the Demented Revengers. I can’t figure why he would change now. The waitress was new though, so maybe she did the drugging, but how did they get us out of the diner without anyone stepping in. I’m still not coming up with anything else.” I try to clear the fog out of my head. The door swings open and four men and one scared young woman walks in. The woman is crying silently. She has bruises on her arms and face. The things that get my attention are her hands are tied and the handprints around her neck. This woman has been through hell and back. I don’t recognize any of the men. I look at the one that entered first and his name on his cut is Light and his patch says VP.

“Well it looks like the assholes are finally awake. It’s almost show time.” Light laughs.

“Their families are going to have a new family video to add to their collections. All three stars are ready. That’s if the assholes can get it up.” I look at the man’s name and it is Titan and his patch says Enforcer. All the men laugh.

“I see you have noticed that the old crew has been put in permanent retirement. Now we are doing things our way.” Light sneers as he is saying it. One of the men behind the woman pushes her towards the bed. She almost falls but catches herself and walks over to the bed and sits on the edge of the bed. I look at the man that pushed her and he is a prospect. I glanced at the other man that I had not gotten his name yet and he is also a prospect. When we get out of here it may be important to take the Hell Keeperz MC down. The leadership of their club is changing hands may be the reason we haven’t been able to get closer to them. Light’s phone rings and he takes it out of his pocket. He steps out of the room to take the call. Titan walks over in front of us.

“This woman may be a little roughed up, but she is prime pussy. The kind of prime that is virgin. We’re going to give her to you and your buddy.” He’s looking straight at me. I stare back at him.

“No!” I yell. He starts laughing and the two prospects laugh along with him. The door opens and Light walks back in. He takes a zip tie out of his back pocket and hands it to one of the prospects.

“Zip tie her to the bed. The Prez has a job for Titan and me and then we will be back to get this done. I want one of you in the house and the other hid outside until we get back.” Light instructs the other men and he turns and leaves and Titan follows behind him. After the prospects make sure the woman is secured to the bed they leave without a word. Brody and I look at each other and then at the woman. The woman is timidly looking at Brody. I am giving Brody the time to take the lead.

“What is your name and story?” Brody asks her. She looks startled by the question. I can see she doesn’t know whether she should answer the question or not.

“Tell me something about you first. I don’t want to get beat again for opening my mouth. What’s your story? How did the two of you get brought into this hell?” The woman says in a soft voice.

“I’m Brody and this is Rebel. We think we were drugged where we were going to eat, a small diner. Things get cloudy from there. Rebel is the President of the Demented Revenger MC in Quitman and they are at war with the Hell Keeperz MC. Your turn, please, just trust us.” Brody says to her in a firm voice. I know the way Charity is looking at Brody that she already trusts him. It is me she is not sure about.

“My name is Charity Connors. I have been held captive for almost four months. I have counted by meals. We received oatmeal for breakfast and a peanut butter sandwich at night. They are holding twenty something other women and girls in a different house until they are ready to use them. The number varies on the day, but we never had more than twenty-nine or less than twenty in any one day. The youngest I talked to was sixteen, the girl that was taken from where we were being held and then brought back later that night, and the oldest was twenty-two. Not all the women would talk. If we were caught, we were beat. They forbid us to talk to each other.” Charity’s lip is trembling as she says it. “They are going to make you have sex with me or kill you. Both at the same time and then separate. I heard them talking last night. Only the one girl, has come back from this type of situation. She said they killed the man that was to have sex with her. She said that she heard one of the bikers say that she wouldn’t be keeping the brothers happy that night, but her day was coming.”

“How were you taken? Were you drugged too?” I ask Charity.

“No drugs until after I was handed over to them. They gave us pills to sleep at night. The women that wouldn’t take them they injected them with something. I took the pills. I thought the needles might be dirty and I do not like needles anyway.” Tears are falling from Charity’s eyes.

“Who gave you to them, Charity?” Brody asked.

“My pop. It makes no sense to me. We always had such a close family, or at least I thought we did. I have an older sister and a younger one. I am scared for Faith. She’s my younger sister and only sixteen. Hope is my older sister, but she is already married.” Charity gives into her tears. I hit Brody with my elbow. He seems to be the one she has connected with maybe, he can calm this woman down, so we can get more information.

  Chapter 2

  Brody

“Charity, can you try to pull yourself together? We need to get all the information before these assholes come back. I know you have been through so much, but for us to get all of us out of here, we need details. Have you had access to a phone? How many men have you seen inside or outside this house?” I feel bad for this woman being betrayed by her own family. The people that were supposed to have her back. Charity gets her crying under control.

“I haven’t had access to any phones. The bikers have phones,
but I wasn’t going to take the chance to try and lift one from them. There was one other man that met us outside when we arrived, but until I was brought upstairs, I was kept in one room except for meals which was cut down to one a day here. These men wanted Faith, but Pop told them I was only seventeen and Faith has asthma. The bikers argued with my pop, saying I was old enough to have been with a man before, but my pop swore I was only seventeen and I was still a virgin. They said if they found out I was older or wasn’t a virgin they would be back, and my entire family would pay. The joke is on the Hell Keeperz MC because if my pop didn’t want them in our community, they would have been shot off their bikes, ten miles before they reached us.” Charity is rambling on. I know she must be in shock.

“Charity, honey, calm down. Take a deep breath and blow it out. Stay on track. We’ll get to the rest.” I try to calm Charity down, so she can focus. “Okay, no phones and only one man that you are aware of.”

“Yes, that girl that came back that one time said they were threatening to video tape that man having sex with an underage girl and send it to his entire family and then put it on social media. He was some sort of politician or something and they wanted to ruin his life if they didn’t get his cooperation. Why would they do that to you two? Are married or in the public eye?” I notice that Charity is only looking at me and not Rebel.

“I am married, and Gracie and my children are my world and I will not hurt her like that. I know she would forgive me or defend my actions by saying I was made to do it, but she has been through enough in her life and it will not be happening, I don’t care what they threaten me with” Rebel states with a conviction that I know he is telling the gods to honest truth. Rebel would give his life up before he betrayed Gracie.
